this was the first time he’d heard their side of the story. weeks of nothing but bread and soup. sharing a small, cluttered room, with barely any space left for thought. talking in hushed tones, late at night, faces illuminated by passing cars on the bridge not far from the window. hopes rising with a brightening sky. and the eventual slide into shared dreams.
